Ottumwa -- In a battle of two teams ranked in the top-ten in the nation, No. 10 Indian Hills knocked third-rated Iowa Western from the ranks of the unbeaten as the Warriors ran their home court winning streak to 32 with a 79-64 win over the Reivers at the Hellyer Center Saturday night.
Iowa Western came into the game with a school-record 20-game winning streak, but was held 21 points below its season scoring average in losing for the sixth consecutive time to Indian Hills.
The Warriors outscored the visitors, 40-30, in the second half and held Iowa Western to just 28-percent shooting from the floor over the final 20 minutes in winning its fifth straight game and 19th in 21 games on the season.
Iowa Western made only four-of-29 three-point attempts and was outrebounded by IHCC, 57-44.
Indian Hills jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead, but the Reivers, who were scoreless for the first 3 1/2 minutes, recovered to take their own seven-point lead at 21-14.
With Iowa Western ahead 29-24 with around five minutes to go in the half, Indian Hills started a run that would put them ahead for good. Ronald Ross had consecutive baskets, the second after a backcourt steal and layup, and Jelan Kendrick followed with a go-ahead bucket. When Jameel McKay, who led all scorers with 21 points, finished a fast break with a dunk, the Warriors were on top 32-29 and they never trailed again.
The two teams had only one 3-pointer each in the first 19 minutes of play until IHCC's Frank Williams drained back-to-back 3s and Devin Brooks hit one for Iowa Western just before the first-half buzzer to make it 39-34 at intermission.
Iowa Western got to within three points in the second half at 43-40 and still trailed by only four at 53-49 before IHCC used another 8-0 spurt to gain control.
Rawane Ndiaye made a nice move for a reverse layup, his only points of the game to start the run with Williams, McKay and Ross all adding field goals for the Warriors' first double-digit lead of the game with just over nine minutes remaining.
The lead eventually grew to 17 in the final minutes as the Warriors picked up the victory, despite their second-lowest point total of the season.
McKay added 11 rebonds to go along with his game-high 21 points; Ross had 18 and Kendrick 17 for IHCC. Brooks topped IWCC with 16 and Tavian Pomlee scored 14.
Indian Hills, alone in the conference lead at 2-0, will host Southeastern CC on Wednesday night and then travel to Marshalltown CC on Saturday.

League Season Begins with a Bang for IHCC
Norfolk, Nebraska -- Indian Hills scored 31 points over the final 7:20 of the first half and went on to rout Northeast CC, 120-89, on Wednesday night in the Warriors' conference opener.
Sean Scott hit a 3-pointer to help Northeast shave a 13-point IHCC lead to six at 30-24 with just over seven minutes to play in the opening half.
That's when the Warriors took off. They outscored Northeast 31-11 the remainder of the half to build a 26-point lead at intermission. And they steadily pulled away in the second half, forcing 30 NCC turnovers for the game and scoring 59 more points in the final 20 minutes.
The Warriors (18-2, 1-0) took a whopping 103 shots and when they weren't scoring on the initial attempt they pounded the offensive glass, corraling 31 offensive rebounds. Both teams shot just under 50-percent for the game, but IHCC had 28 more shot attempts than the Hawks (13-7, 1-1).
Indian Hills' Jelan Kendrick poured in 14 second-half points and led all scorers with 22 points on 10-of-13 shooting from the field. Dustin Hogue helped the Warriors' first-half explosion, scoring 16 points in the opening half. He ended the night with 18.
Richard Amardi had a solid game for IHCC with 10 points, 10 rebounds and five steals. Indian Hills had eight players in double figures. Two of them were Ronald Ross and Frank Williams, who hit back-to-back 3s at the end of the first half. Ross also dished out nine assists. His 3-pointer with over eight minutes to play put IHCC over the 100-point mark for the 11th time this season.
Scott had 19 points to lead Northeast and Khapri Alston had 18, all of them in the second half.
The win gives the Warriors a four-game winning streak and some momentum heading into Saturday's game with Iowa Western at the Hellyer Center. Iowa Western is 20-0 and ranked third in the nation. Tipoff is at 7:00.

Warriors Win Road Battle at Three Rivers
Poplar Bluff, MO -- Jelan Kendrick's layup with 1:30 to play provided the eighth lead change of the final seven minutes and Indian Hills didn't trail again after the Kendrick field goal, finally disposing of Three Rivers CC, 81-77, on Wednesday night.
After the Warriors got a defensive stop following Kendrick's bucket, Frank Williams made one of two free throws to give IHCC a 75-73 lead. Jalen Lacy then went to the line with a chance to tie the score, but made only one free throw to leave TRCC a point behind.
Indian Hills' Dustin Hogue then made the biggest shot of the night when he was fouled while making a shot in the lane. He added a free throw to give the Warriors a four-point lead with 17.2 seconds to play.
The Warriors' Jameel McKay -- who had a double-double with 22 points and 11 rebounds -- rebounded a missed shot and dropped in two free throws for an 80-74 lead with 9.1 seconds remaining.
James Macklin's three-pointer for Three Rivers and a Kendrick free throw finished the scoring.
Three Rivers had all kinds of trouble hanging onto the ball in the first half as they turned it over 24 times. Cutting their turnovers to only two in the second half allowed the Raiders to make up an 11-point halftime deficit.
They took their first lead at 61-60 on a tip-dunk by Ibrahim Djambo with 6:51 to play. McKay's tip-in on the next possession allowed IHCC to regain the lead and the game stayed closed the rest of the night.
Djambo led all scorers with 26 points and he added 11 rebounds. Indian Hills' Hogue also had a double-double with 17 points and 11 boards.
The Warriors sprinted out to a 9-0 lead and, helped greatly by Three Rivers' inability to take care of the basketball, eventually built the lead to 27-14 on a 3-pointer by Hogue. Djambo banked in a three at the end of the half to allow the Raiders to get to within 11 at intermission.
Three Rivers finally got untracked offensively in the second half and the Raiders' John Meyer, Djambo and Lacy all scored 12 or more points over the final 20 minutes.
Like Three Rivers, Indian Hills had turnover problems in the opening half, committing 17. They actually wound up with one more than TRCC, 27-26.

Warriors End Trip With Big Win at Mesa
Mesa, AZ -- Indian Hills jumped on Mesa CC with a big, early lead and went on to roll over the Thunderbirds, 83-69, on Saturday in the Warriors’ final game of their three-game trip to Arizona.
The IHCC win came on the same floor where Mesa had dominated No. 1-ranked South Plains (Tex.) in a 67-46 blowout earlier in the week.
The Warriors (16-2) scored the first 12 points and held Mesa (12-4) without a field goal for over eight minutes to start the game. After grabbing the 12-0 lead, Indian Hills didn’t let up, eventually building a 20-point lead at 37-17.
With four minutes remaining in the opening half, the Warriors’ Jameel McKay already had a double-double and he finished the night with 20 points and 16 rebounds, both game-highs.
Frank Williams had his third straight outstanding performance off the bench for IHCC, draining five 3-pointers, four of them in the first half, on his way to 17 points.
The lead was 14 points at the half and Indian Hills withstood a couple of Mesa comeback attempts in the second half.
The Thunderbirds’ biggest charge got them to within 62-56 with 7:23 to play in the second half after a Khalfuni Marks layup. Jelan Kendrick had the answer for the Warriors, hitting a pull-up jumper with the shot clock winding down.
That basket started a 10-0 IHCC run over the next four minutes that effectively put the game away. Richard Amardi had two of the buckets in that run and Mesa never got closer than 10 points the rest of the contest.
Dustin Hogue had 12 points for the Warriors and Kendrick had seven assists to go along with 10 points.
Tylor Wimbish had 17 points to lead the Mesa scoring.
Indian Hills had a huge edge on the backboards, out-rebounding the hosts 38-20.
There are two more games left in the Warriors’ stretch of five straight road tests. They will play at Three Rivers (Mo.) on Wednesday night and then begin league play against conference newcomer Northeast (Neb.) on Jan. 16.

Indian Hills Wallops South Mountain
Phoenix, AZ -- Using an early 9-0 run to take control, Indian Hills bounced back from a loss in the first game of its Arizona trip to wallop South Mountain CC, 120-69, on Thursday night.
The Warriors, now 15-2, trailed 4-2 before getting untracked. Once they did, they used an assortment of three-pointers, dunks and fast-break layups to overwhelm South Mountain, a team that was ranked No. 2 in the preseason Division II poll.
Dustin Hogue, who led the Warriors in scoring, helped IHCC open up a huge first-half lead with 16 of his season-high 21 points. The Warriors owned a 69-32 halftime advantage and already had six players with at least eight points by intermission.
The 69 points were only eight fewer than Indian Hills scored when they lost to Central Arizona Tuesday night.
The point total of 120 against South Mountain raised the Warriors’ scoring average to 105.8 points a game, best in the nation in Division I.
South Mountain never recovered from the early IHCC onslaught. The Cougars committed 29 turnovers and shot just over 30 percent from the field.
Jameel McKay and Ronald Ross scored 17 points each for the Warriors. Frank Williams had 14, and Richard Amardi and Jelan Kendrick added 13.
Johnell Thompson’s 23 points paced South Mountain, who made 10 threes, one fewer than the Warriors.
Indian Hills will get a much stiffer test as they wrap up their trip with a game at Mesa CC at 8:30 Iowa time Saturday night.
Mesa is coming off a 67-46 drubbing of top-ranked South Plains (Tex.) on Wednesday.

Warriors Shot Down in First Game in Arizona
Coolidge, AZ -- Indian Hills failed to hold onto a late lead and the Warriors dropped an 84-77 decision to Central Arizona College on Tuesday night. It was the Warriors’ second loss of the season and came in the first of three contests they’ll play in Arizona this week.
There were two lead changes after that with Cooke’s 3-pointer with 27.2 seconds remaining giving CAC the lead for good.
Frank Williams’ field goal with just over a minute to play gave IHCC (14-2) a 77-74 lead. But the Warriors didn’t score again as CAC (12-3) closed the game on a 10-0 run.
The Vaqueros started their run with a free throw and ended it with six straight foul shots. Their lone field goal in the final minute was a 3-pointer by Austin Cooke that put them on top, 78-77.
Cooke was instrumental in helping Central Arizona make up a 14-point deficit in the second half. He hit three 3s in the final half on his way to a team-high 17 points.
Jameel McKay led Indian Hills with 19 points. His layup with 1:35 to play gave the Warriors the lead at 75-74 and Williams, who scored 14 points off the bench, extended the lead to three 30 seconds later. But the Warriors couldn’t hold on.
After Central Arizona held a couple of early leads, Indian Hills raced away to a 14-point bulge in the first half.
Majok Deng helped IHCC gain control by scoring eight points, six on back-to-back 3s.
The Warriors owned a 54-41 advantage early in the second half, but the Vaqueros pulled within two at 58-56 about midway through the half. Vincentas Alexsandravicius drained a trio of 3-pointers to help CAC come back.
Sparked by two straight baskets by Williams, the Warriors stemmed the tide and built the lead back to 13 at 71-58 with around six minutes to play.
Again, the hosts surged, this time with an 11-0 run in less than three minutes to cut the deficit to 71-69.
Ronald Ross scored 17 points for the Warriors and hit four 3s. He was one of three IHCC players to foul out.
The loss came in the Warriors’ first of five consecutive road games. They’ll play two more times on the current trip, at South Mountain CC on Thursday night and Mesa CC on Saturday night. Both games start at 8:30 Iowa time.

Ottumwa -- The Indian Hills basketball team avoided a potential letdown in the final game before the players scatter for Christmas break, the Warriors putting together a solid all-around performance in a 128-72 blowout of NIACC at the Hellyer Center on Tuesday night.
IHCC scored the most points by a Warrior team since the 1999-2000 season in ending the first half of the schedule with a 14-1 record. The Warriors made 14 3-point field goals and forced 36 turnovers by the Trojans.
Jameel McKay was one of three IHCC players to score over 20 points, pouring in 29 and adding nine rebounds. Ronald Ross buried five 3s on his way to a 23-point night and Frank Williams had 15 of his 21 in the second half.
Ross also had seven steals and seven assists and Rawane Ndiaye had a team-high 11 rebounds as the Warriors stayed undefeated in 11 home games this season.
After Mohamed Mohamed's three-point play gave NIACC a 13-11 lead about five minutes into the game, Martin Dixon-Green, who had a season-high 12 points off the IHCC bench, answered with his own three-point play and the Warriors never trailed again.
They quickly built the lead to double digits and put together a 33-10 run. NIACC scored seven straight points, but the Warriors sprinted away after that to a 64-36 halftime lead. Ironically, the margin was idential in the second half with Indian Hills outscoring the Trojans 64-36 over the final 20 minutes.
The 14 made 3s were one fewer than the season-high of 15 set last Friday against Clinton. It was the ninth time in 15 games that IHCC has broken the century mark and lifted the season scoring average to 106.7.
Mohamed Mohamed led five double-figure scorers for NIACC with 19 points.
After playing its last five games at home, the next five for the Warriors are away from home, starting with three contests in five days in Arizona to begin the month of January. The last of those five straight road games will be the conference opener at Northeast (Neb.) on Jan. 16.
