Warriors Lose Third Straight in Double OT

Park Hills, Mo. -- Mineral Area outscored Indian Hills 6-2 in the second overtime period and defeated the Warriors 68-64 in the Bob Sechrest Classic Saturday night. The loss was the second in a row in the tourney for the Warriors and their third straight road loss of the week.

Dwan McMillan did his best to give the Warriors a chance to pull the game out and salvage the second game of the trip. McMillan hit a pair of free throws with 12.7 seconds left in regulation to tie the score at 59. The sophomore guard made a shot in the lane, IHCC's only field goal of the first overtime, with 6.8 seconds left in the extra session to knot the game at 62-all.

But the Warriors couldn't score in the second overtime period until Larry Stone's basket with five seconds remaining. Carlton Guyton of MAC hit a three-pointer about midway through the second OT to give the Cardinals the lead for good. Kaleb Wright followed with a field goal for Mineral Area and Al Rapier gave them their final point with a free throw in the last minute.

Indian Hills endured a scoring drought in the first nine minutes of a game with Three Rivers the previous night and the Warriors' inability to score came back to haunt them at the end of this game. IHCC scored only five points in the ten minutes of overtime and uneven guard play hurt the Warriors' cause. Indian Hills committed 25 turnovers in the game.

The Warriors made up a five-point deficit in the second half when Aaron Austin hit two straight shots, the second a three-pointer to even the score at 51. Mineral Area opened up a 59-55 lead, but Brandon Garrett scored inside for the Warriors and McMillan followed with his two free throws, both in the final minute of regulation to let IHCC tie it at 59.

Indian Hills took a three-point halftime lead and built the margin to six early in the second half. A 12-3 run let MAC go on top 45-42 and the contest was close the rest of the night.

The loss leaves IHCC's season record at 5-3. The Warriors have a week off before taking on Moraine Valley (Ill.) on Nov. 28.
