Warriors Roll Over Lake County in Hy-Vee Classic

Ottumwa -- It took them a while to get untracked, but once they did the Indian Hills Warriors defeated visiting College of Lake County, 91-70, at the Hellyer Center on Friday night.

Lake County took a 7-2 lead at the start of the game and the score was still tied about midway through the opening half before Indian Hills outscored the Lancers, 30-16, to close the half.

A 14-point halftime lead included five three-pointers by five different players for IHCC. Aaron Austin started the second half with another trey and the Warriors were never in trouble in the final 20 minutes.

Indian Hills coach Jeff Kidder switched from his trademark man-to-man defense to a zone in the second half and the Warriors had some success in shutting down the Lancers' penetration and it helped Indian Hills maintain a comfortable lead.

Brian Wilson led the IHCC scoring with a season-high 18 points, just one fewer point than Wilson had scored in his first five games. Dijon Farr added 14 points and Austin and E.J. Hicks had 10 each for the Warriors. For Hicks, it was his second straight double-figure effort off the bench.

Rick Bowers, one of the Lancers' guards that gave the IHCC defense problems, led all scorers with 19 points.

On Saturday night, Indian Hills will look to avenge an earlier loss against Kirkwood when they play the Eagles in the final game of the Hy-Vee Classic.
