Warriors Take a Break after 12th Win

Ottumwa -- The Indian Hills basketball team got back on the winning track, picking up its 12th win of the season on Wednesday night, a 63-57 victory over Southwestern CC. But the win didn't come without some anxiety as the Warriors saw a 16-point second-half lead cut to four in the final minute. A pair of free throws by Dwan McMillan in the last 60 seconds nailed down IHCC's 11th win without a loss on their home court.

Dijon Farr got the first Indian Hills points with a three-point basket over four minutes into the game. Farr's second three gave the Warriors the lead for good and started a 15-0 run that ended with a three-pointer by Larry Stone. At that point, the Warriors led 19-6 with just over eight minutes to go in the half.

Farr had 10 of the first 12 points for Indian Hills.

Southwestern got to within three points at 21-18 before IHCC ended the opening half on a 10-2 run. McMillan came up big for the Warriors in that stretch with three steals, a layup, and a pass to Brandon Garrett for a dunk. McMillan's pair of free throws with 23.3 seconds to go in the half made it an 11-point game at the break.

Indian Hills eventually opened up a 16-point lead in the second half, but had trouble closing out the visiting Spartans. Farr made both ends of a one-and-one with four minutes left, his only points of the second half, to give Indian Hills a 57-44 advantage.

Southwestern then outscored IHCC 13-4 until McMillan's two late free throws sealed the victory and sent the Warriors off to the Christmas break with a 12-4 record.

Trent Fisher scored 12 points in the second half for Southwestern and led all scorers with 14. Stone paced Indian Hills with 13, Farr wound up with 12 and McMillan scored 10 and added five steals.

Indian Hills is idle until they play three games in three days at the end of the month. The stretch starts with a home contest against Olive-Harvey on Dec. 29.
